Cumberland County Office of Aging Receives 2015 Excellence in Nutrition Award

Cumberland County, PA - The Cumberland County Office of Aging and Community Services (A&CS) is the recipient of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s 2015 Excellence in Nutrition for Older Pennsylvanians and Best Practice Award. Terry Barley, Executive Director, accepted the award on behalf of A&CS at a recent award ceremony.  At their public meeting, the Commissioners presented a Certificate of Special Recognition to Mr. Barley on behalf of the department.

The Commissioners commended the department for establishing a collaborative approach to providing hot in-home meals for eligible seniors in the Shippensburg area.  By partnering with the Franklin County Area Agency on Aging, the Shippensburg Meals on Wheels program and the Shippensburg Senior Center, they were able to provide a more nutritious hot meal as compared to the meals the seniors were previously receiving.  Through this new partnership the meals are offered at a reduced cost.
