On Friday, April 25, 2014, Theatre Harrisburg will hold its opening night for the production of Stephen Sondheim's musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd, starring Anthony Leukus and Rebecca Mease, on stage at the Whitaker Center in downtown Harrisburg.

This well-known tale is set in 19th Century England, where Benjamin Barker returns after a 15 year imprisonment. He disguises himself by using the name Sweeney Todd and returns to England with the vow of revenge on the judge who sentenced him, then the rest of the world. In his pursuit, he befriends the town pie-maker Mrs. Lovett and opens a barbershop above her bakery, where he executes his customers by slitting their throats then sends their bodies to her to be baked into meat pies.

As released by the Art Association of Harrisburg:

The celebration for this year's 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz has already been underway for several months. And to quote the Mayor of Munchkinland, "Let the joyous news be spread!" Many still cherish the memories of settling in with the family to watch the annual TV showing of 1939's The Wizard of Oz. The thought of it calls to mind Judy Garland singing "Over the Rainbow," or the blubbering, comical Cowardly Lion. And who can forget those cringe-worthy Winged Monkeys, minions of the green-faced, cackling Wicked Witch of the West?
