All summer through December, the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Factory will have bakery tours open from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. In 1861, Julius Sturgis switched from being a bread baker to establishing the first commercial pretzel bakery in America, and to this day, the Sturgis family continues to bake pretzels using the same old-fashioned recipe. The hands-on tours include the original bakery, where visitors get their own piece of dough and are taught how to twist a pretzel, and the original ovens built by Julius Sturgis.
Guests can learn history of American pretzel baking on this tour that runs approximately 20 minutes. Admission is $3.50 for adults and $2.50 for children. The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery is located at 219 East Main Street in Lititz. For additional information, visit www.JuliusSturgis.com.
